Report: Greece in talks with Gazprom on gas supply terms
ATHENS, Nov 7 (PRIME) -- Greece's state gas company DEPA Commerce is in negotiations with Russian gas giant Gazprom on the terms and prices of gas supplies in 2024, Environment and Energy Minister Thodoros Skylakakis said as cited by business daily Ekonomikos Tahidromos on November 3.
"Skylakakis has confirmed a report by Ekonomikos Tahidromos that the two companies were at the negotiation table on the prices and the take-or-pay condition, which means fines for the volumes that the Greece's company did not receive in spite of the obligations," the newspaper reported.
Russian gas accounted for 40% of Greece's gas imports in January–September and can account for 60% according to unconfirmed data, the report read.
According to the sources cited by the newspaper, Greece cut gas consumption and could not accept all the gas booked from Gazprom, while Gazprom failed to comply with a condition that it cannot sell gas to other Greek clients at prices lower that those it offered to DEPA Commerce.
Apart from DEPA Commerce, Copelouzos Group and group Mytilineos also import Russian natural gas.
